Apprenticeships are building bright futures for the people we support

At Voyage Care, we support over 3,500 people with additional needs, including a learning disability, autism, a brain injury, and other complex needs. We know that every one of our colleagues is essential to ensuring we deliver incredible care and support that changes the lives of the people we support.

From our terrific tech teams to our super support colleagues, everyone plays an important part in making real change in the lives of the people we support. Within our organisation, our apprentices are also helping us make big steps on our mission to create fulfilling lives for all!

With lots of learning pathways available, our industry-recognised, Sunday Times rated apprenticeships pave way to incredible personal and professional development that shapes how we deliver care and support.

For our Qualification and Development Manager, Mandi Smith, our apprenticeships are at the heart of our organisation. They’re leading the way in nurturing a confident workforce who use their unique talents and skills to build a bright future for the people we support.

Opening doors to excellent support

Our apprenticeships are unique and offer colleagues an opportunity to access further training and industry-recognised qualifications. Delivered alongside our vibrant roles, they support colleagues at any stage of their career to learn new skills and knowledge about the role they work in.

Offering learning alongside employment security, our colleagues who enrol on apprenticeships can apply their learning as practical skills in their daily roles. We know that classroom environments don’t suit everyone. So, our apprenticeship pathways enable them to embrace a hands-on approach to their training.

Through our expertly created apprenticeship pathways, our colleagues also access unexpected opportunities. Alongside enhancing existing skills and knowledge, they can unearth hidden talents and discover new interests!

Qualification and Development Manager, Mandi Smith, understands the importance of embracing individual skills and interests as part of how we deliver our care and support:

“Our apprenticeships strengthen the foundations of high-quality care. Colleagues develop professionally, opening doors to new responsibilities and career progression. Through apprenticeships, our colleagues gain vital skills that directly enhance the quality of life for the people we support.”

We embrace authenticity and inclusion, so our apprenticeships are open to every colleague who has worked with us for at least six months. Over this time, we get to know each team member’s unique approach to supporting others and how we can positively nurture this.

For us, each person’s unique approach to their apprenticeship pathway is an opportunity for us to learn more about what it means to deliver incredible care to the people we support. Our apprentices are key to broadening our vision of what life-changing support looks like.

A quote from our Qualification and Development Manager, Mandi Smith, saying delivering exceptional, person-centred care rules on one crucial element nurturing colleagues with the right skills and confidence to provide outstanding support every day. This is why apprenticeships play such an important role in our organisation.

Person-centred pathways

To ensure we create a valuable, meaningful education experience, we partner with Paragon Skills to deliver our apprenticeship programmes. As our dedicated apprenticeship provider, Paragon support us to grow and enhance our learning pathways. Offering dedicated mentorship, they’ve supported our teams to confidently navigate their learning journeys.

Understanding each person learns differently, we work together to ensure learning pathways are as person-centred as the support we deliver in our homes! This approach has achieved incredible success – something Mandi’s particularly proud of:

“We’ve seen our colleagues flourish during their learning journeys, developing confidence, strengthening their practical skills, and progressing into more advanced roles across our services. Paragon Skills have supported this. Their specialist approach, sector expertise and commitment to quality have contributed to the development of a skilled and capable workforce.”

Working with the right apprenticeship partner, in the right way for our colleagues, is achieving amazing things across our organisation. Something Tracy Howden at Paragon Skills reflects:

“We are in awe of the commitment and drive that Voyage Care’s apprentices have, how freely they celebrate achievements, and how supportive Line Managers are when enabling dedicated time for learners and supporting with the exposure to new knowledge and skills. We’re proud to be the chosen provider and are looking forward to 2026 – a year I’m sure will have even more positive impact!

Commitment to continuous learning

For everyone across our organisation, apprenticeships are a valuable learning journey and an investment in the future of the incredible care and support we deliver. By equipping our colleagues with recognised qualifications and real-world skills – delivered in a way that’s right for them – we can continue to deliver high quality, compassionate, and consistent care across all our services. Maintaining a position at the heart of our organisation, Mandi emphasises how apprenticeships will shape the future of our care and support:

“Apprenticeships will remain a key part of our commitment to developing our colleagues, investing in our teams and strengthening our skills across the organisation. I look forward to seeing how our colleagues continue to flourish and to creating even more opportunities for everyone to learn, develop and succeed.”
