Morgan’s incredible career journey through the ranks at Voyage Care!

Morgan is a Service Manager at Esmer House, one of our specialist Prader-Willi syndrome residential care homes in Nottinghamshire.

Unsure of what career path she wanted to take after leaving school, Morgan took an interest in health and social care while studying at college. As Morgan’s interest in social care grew, she began to apply for jobs, including a Support Worker role at Voyage Care.

To her amazement, she was invited to an interview and couldn’t hold back her excitement. Morgan passed the interview with flying colours, and began her Voyage Care journey at one of our specialist autism services, The Cedars (Mansfield).

A successful new career

While working as a Support Worker, Morgan showed strong dedication to the people we support. She earned herself a promotion to Acting Senior Support Worker at The Cedars (Mansfield) just two years later!

A Deputy Manager job then became available. Unsure if she was going to put herself forward for the position, another Manager gave Morgan the confidence and encouragement to apply!

Morgan earned herself an interview for the role and couldn’t believe it when she was told she’d got the job! Receiving this news meant so much to Morgan. Tears of happiness and pride streamed down her face. She never thought she would be fortunate enough to be in this position at just 21 years old!

Morgan’s love for her career in care grew stronger than ever! Although she missed being with the people we support on the floors as a Support Worker, she got much more gratitude from the things she was able to do as a Deputy Manager. She was involved in so much more than just supporting individuals in our homes.

A few years moved along, and Morgan’s Manager at the time approached her about a new service, Esmer House, that was opening soon!

As a Prader-Willi syndrome specialist service, Esmer House was going to be a completely new experience for Morgan. But, through the confidence gained through her previous roles, she felt she was ready for a change and wanted to take on a new challenge!

Supporting the move to Esmer House

To support Morgan through this change, Voyage Care put her through specific training to expand her knowledge and help her progress even further. She had training from an in-house Behaviour Support Practitioner who specialises in Prader-Willi syndrome, and also gained a lot of information and guidance from the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (PWSA).

Morgan was supported by Voyage Care throughout her move to Esmer House. Alongside her in-house training, she was supported to attend an external, two-day PWSA course, where she was able to obtain additional information and guidance.

She also had a lot of support from the Manager and Deputy Manager at another one of our Prader-Willi syndrome services, Redbank House. They spent time with Morgan at the service to help her gain more knowledge and understanding in supporting the condition.

Morgan is always striving to learn and improve, and through her hard work and dedication, she has since completed her Level 5 NVQ in Adult Health and Social Care!

Later, a Service Manager position came up at Esmer House. Morgan was initially nervous about going for the role after only recently returning from six months of maternity leave.

However, after some consideration, and filled with confidence and experience in supporting Prader-Willi syndrome, Morgan decided to go for it. To her joy, she got the job!

Morgan knew her hard work had paid off, and her colleagues were seeing her passion for the people we support!

Since taking on the Service Manager role in spring 2024, she’s undergone her first internal audit which went great!

Through her dedication and experience, she is also supporting another Prader-Willi syndrome service, Mason House, with changes, and is proudly watching the people we support grow and achieve their goals!

With the amazing support from the team around her, Morgan has successfully progressed her career, and is thoroughly enjoying her latest role as Service Manager at Esmer House!

Helping the people we support live fulfilling lives

Morgan loves knowing that every day, she’s making a massive difference to the lives of vulnerable people. The knowledge and laughter she shares with them, and the smiles on their faces makes it the most fulfilling experience!

While some days are a challenge, the support her and the team provide, is making a huge difference to the lives of those living at Esmer House.

She always remembers that those challenging days don’t last forever. For Morgan, there are many reasons she loves her job!

Since joining Voyage Care, Morgan has had many successes with the people we support. While working at Esmer House, she’s supported several individuals with Prader-Willi syndrome to lose significant amounts of weight. This support has enabled them to reduce medication for other conditions such as diabetes.

Morgan now supports three people with voluntary jobs. This has resulted in them being heavily involved in the community, gaining new friends and independence out of the home.

She is excited to keep driving forward and helping the people we support live fulfilling lives.

Feeling fulfilled

Morgan commented: “Voyage Care has supported me through my whole journey. I will always be thankful for the opportunities they have given me. Achieving my Level 5 diploma in Adult Health and Social Care, while working a full-time job, will always be a win for me!”

Morgan is excited to progress Esmer House into a service that is even more amazing than it already is. She is keen to keep developing and moving forward, while keeping her team and the people we support happy!
