Heidi’s rewarding career
With a passion for helping others, Heidi has always had one eye on a career in social care. Between 2016 and 2019, Heidi worked towards her degree in Social Care and Health Studies – graduating with flying colours! After completing her degree, she was eager to begin her career in care and to see where it would take her.
In 2020, Heidi joined us as a Support Worker at Sadlers Place, one of our residential care homes. Motivated and excited to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support, Heidi quickly knew she had found her place and loved every aspect of the role.
Heidi found so much joy in taking part in activities with the people we support and helping them work towards their goals. She also embraced every learning and development opportunity available, continually building her skills and knowledge.
In a short space of time, Heidi had found her dream job. But an exciting new chapter was just around the corner.
Career progression
Heidi’s dedication and ability were soon recognised, leading to her promotion to Senior Support Worker. She spent just over a year in this role, continuing to build her knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills.
In 2022, Heidi transferred to Dudley Street, another of our residential care homes. The move opened up new opportunities, and just a few weeks after joining Dudley Street, a Deputy Manager position became available. Ready for her next challenge, Heidi didn’t hesitate to apply.
She was thrilled to be successful. With her new surroundings already feeling like home, Heidi was excited to take the next step in her career.
As a Deputy Manager, Heidi learned a great deal and was challenged to grow into the leader she had always aspired to be. She supported the Service Manager, delegated responsibilities across the team, contributed to assessments and reviews, and worked closely with the people we support to help them achieve meaningful outcomes.
Over the next two years, Heidi thrived in the role and celebrated many achievements. She played a key part in the team winning Care Home Team of the Year at the Voyage Excellence Awards and supported an individual to develop their independence and eventually move into supported living accommodation.
Stepping up to Service Manager
After two incredible years, Heidi was ready to take the next step in her career. In 2024, she was promoted to Service Manager.
As Service Manager, Heidi’s responsible for the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring the people we support receive the highest quality care while developing her team to deliver expert, person-centred support. The role has given her the opportunity to gain valuable management experience and continue growing as a leader.
The people we support are at the heart of everything Heidi does. She champions creative, person-centred support plans that empower everyone to achieve meaningful outcomes, and seeing them live happy, fulfilling lives is what motivates her every day.
Since becoming Service Manager, Heidi has helped make countless memorable moments possible. From supporting people to attend concerts to helping them embark on dream holidays, her dedication has turned aspirations into reality. One achievement she is particularly proud of is supporting an individual to create their own sign language dictionary. This milestone was an enjoyable journey for everyone and has empowered the individual to communicate more confidently and express themselves in a way that works best for them.
Supported all the way
Since joining us, Heidi has become a valuable member of the Voyage Care family. Her journey from Support Worker to Service Manager has reflected her passion, commitment, and dedication to fulfilling lives for all.
Supported every step of the way by her colleagues, managers, and family, Heidi has continued to grow with every opportunity. Each role has allowed her to gain valuable experience, develop new skills, and make a positive impact on the lives of the people we support.
