Location: Home based with anticipated significant travel required together with some overnight stays.

Job Purpose

The post holder will have the responsibility for the day to day management and leadership of Behaviour Support Specialist across Voyage Care.

The post holder will have the responsibility to provide leadership to the on-going organisational management of behaviour which causes distress or concern; to people with learning disabilities living within Voyages services; or to others

The post holder will have the responsibility to oversee the delivery of expertise, advice and support around the management of MAPA and PBS to staff teams in nursing, residential and supported living services.

The post holder will have the responsibility to ensure that the BSS team effectively undertake the completion of comprehensive functional assessments and develop suitable and sufficient risk assessments and detailed behaviour support plans.

The post holder will have the responsibility to monitor, report and ensure improved outcomes for individuals who exhibit behaviour that challenges by ensuring the on-going completion of relevant protocols and the identification and delivery of required and appropriate staff training.

The post holder will have the responsibility to contribute to the education and training of staff in working with people who present challenge.

The post holder will have the responsibility to oversee the delivery of a specialist advisory service and practical support to people with learning disabilities and challenging behavior.

 

Purpose of Role

 

  • To maintain Voyage Care at the forefront of quality care provision for people we support, promoting Voyage Cares’ values and standards internally and externally.
  • In conjunction with the Quality Director and in collaboration with Managing Directors, Operations Managers and operational teams manage and monitor a framework delivering effective and efficient Behavioural Support to all homes and schemes.
  • To manage the team of Behavioural Therapists to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of Behavioural Support to all homes and schemes.
  • To ensure Behavioural Therapists are deployed appropriately in order to meet the needs of the organisation.
  • To provide a strategic lead for on-going achievement of accredited Headway accreditation for all relevant services

Duties / Responsibilities   

  • Assume an overarching responsibility for the management of behaviour needs of individuals referred to the Behaviour Support Service whilst taking account of the Behaviour Teams remit and priorities
  • To manage any performance, disciplinary, grievance and other employee relations issues as necessary
  • To undertake Supervision (1:1) and Appraisal sessions as agreed with the Director of Quality.
  • To ensure that clinical supervision is undertaken for the BT team.
  • Ensure absence levels are monitored and significant cases managed accordingly
  • Be an authorised signatory for all matters associated with the role including employee expenses.
  • Ensure that the Behavioural Therapists work within the requirements of Voyage Care policies and procedures
  • To lead by example, working with senior managers to ensure the effective management of challenging behaviour across the organisation
  • To lead by example, working with senior managers to ensure the effective management and delivery of Positive behavioural Support across the organisation
  • Keep up to date with changes in external requirements ,ensuring information is appropriately cascaded
  • To deputise for the Director of Quality as required, undertaking other tasks and responsibilities as appropriate to abilities.
  • Represent the organisation at a local and national level as required
  • Maintain a commitment to own continuing professional development and also to actively engage in own appraisal
  • To present a professional persona at all times and demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills and competencies.
  • Ensure that visits associated with the management of challenging behaviour is undertaken equitably with due regard to operational requirements and on a timely basis.
  • Take responsibility for managing and overseeing any allocated development and project work within the designated team.
  • To have management responsibilities for the delivery of behavioural assessments of individuals in collaboration with operational staff, liaising with other disciplines as required
  • Ensure assessment reports, risk assessments and intervention plans to enable individuals and staff to support appropriate behaviour are completed and maintained as required by the team of Behavioural Therapists
  • Oversight of the implementation of agreed strategies to ensure a successful outcome for individuals.
  • Review when required written reports requested by Senior Managers to assist in monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of service provided.
  • Participate in delivering formal training and education to staff and teams in understanding and supporting people with challenging behaviour, ensuring competencies are achieved and maintained in practical procedures
  • Maintain an oversight of the on-going monitoring and supporting of staff and teams who are utilising behaviour change techniques to ensure that appropriate techniques are practised.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation and monitoring of quality assurance initiatives with regard to local operational services specifically related to behaviour management.
  • Manage the development and implementation of behaviour change programmes in accordance with the values and priorities of the organisation
  • In collaboration with other senior managers contribute to the development, delivery and oversight of the implementation of Positive Behavioural Support across the organisation.
  • Produce written reports or assessment profiles in accordance with the requirements of the organisation or external agencies to provide guidance to staff and ensure consistency and also to demonstrate to purchasers the professional action taken to support individuals for whom we provide a service.
  • Participate in and undertake research projects agreed by the Director of Quality
  • Participate in Business Reviews and relevant external multi-disciplinary meetings with a view to positively contributing to improving operational performance and responses to concerns about the behaviour and / or behaviour management needs of an individual.
  • Carry out all other such activities as may be delegated by the Director of Quality
  • To communicate with and establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Quality Director, Risk and Governance Manager, Safety Co-ordinator Managing Directors,  and Operations Managers
  • To ensure that when required a member of the quality team participates in the effective induction of new home / scheme managers and integration of new or acquired homes/schemes ensuring that a visit is made to meet and support new managers early on commencing in post. This should include information on the delivery of services by BT’s as expected by Voyage Care. 
  • To take part, where applicable, in surveys to gather information required to inform the future strategic direction of the Quality Team.
