Purpose of post:    

To lead the management accounts team to coordinate the monthly accounts close process, delivering accurate and timely accounts information at a consolidated and cost centre level.


Key result areas:-

  1. Co-ordinate the completion and review of the monthly accounts close process at a Group consolidation level through to individual cost centre level whilst meeting a strict deadline;
  2. Lead on the continuous process improvement of critical review areas by building prosperous working relationships with respective departmental leads; 
  3. Key point of contact for the external auditors;
  4. Responsible for ensuring the Group’s accounting system is maintained and operates in a financially controlled environment;
  5. Responsible for the preparation and review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and the timely follow up of agreed actions points with the financial controller;
  6. Ownership of monthly payroll reconciliations with timely follow up;
  7. Oversee the reconciliation of employee credit card claims and service petty cash reconciliations;
  8. Direct responsibility for the line management and personal development of 3 management account assistants;
  9. Responsible for the production of the Group’s quarterly VAT return and submissions to the Office of National Statistics;

  • Extensive experience in managing the close process in a complex Group across multiple sites;
  • Demonstrable line management experience including the development of individuals;
  • Excellent MS Excel skills, including vlookups and pivots;
  • Excellent written and verbal  communication skills and ability to develop relationships with finance and non-finance department managers;
  • Experience of preparing  and submitting VAT returns;
  • Proven process improvement experience;
  • CIMA or ACCA qualified accountant


  • Experience in the finance team of a care provider
  • Trained in a top 20 accountancy practice
